Phoenix II UNLIMBITED Hand (Completed Spring 2023)

UTD API is proud to have completed construction on the Phoenix II Prosthetic Hand, building the foundation for becoming e-NABLE certified. Our multidisciplinary team of dedicated members joined forces to design, develop, and construct the innovative prosthetic hand. Through the combined expertise and skills of our team, we successfully tackled the challenges of creating a functional, affordable, and user-friendly prosthetic device that has the potential to transform the lives of amputees.

Knick’s Finger (In Progress)

Image: enableuc.org

We are currently developing an improved version of the Knick’s Single Finger prosthetic, by building on the design developed by the E-Nable community. The finger will be fully mechanical, with flexion made possible by the tension in a thin wire connected to the bracelet that the user wears. Estimated completion: Spring 2024

Mechanical Hand (In Progress)

We are currently developing an improved version of the Phoenix II UnLIMBited Hand by designing an all new wiring system and constructing with higher quality materials to increase grip strength and durability. The mechanical hand will use the user’s wrist flexion to bend the fingers.
Estimated completion: Spring 2024

Mechanical Arm (In Progress)

We are currently developing a fully mechanical arm prosthetic for below-elbow amputees. We plan to expanding on the design of our mechanical hand to incorporate coordinated wrist and finger movement that will be controlled by elbow flexion. We will also increase the durability of the prosthetic by using high-quality materials.
Estimated Completion: Spring 2024

Electronic Arm (In Progress)

We are currently developing an arm that will incorporate electronics to assist the user. This project will also serve as a platform for our team to explore and innovate in the field of bionic prosthetics, furthering our mission to improve the lives of countless individuals and contribute to a more inclusive future.
Estimated Completion: Fall 2024

Dog Wheelchair (Future)

We will be starting development of a dog wheelchair in the future! The project aims to assist dogs without hind legs and will be designed with durability and affordability in mind. The team will work collaboratively to create a functional prototype and will test it to ensure it meets safety standards and is comfortable for the dog to use.
